Whatever the reason, he should have had the decency to explain to you himself, not use your Mum as a gobetween. It sounds as though he is prepared to sacrifice the holiday, either to keep his new employers happy or to earn some extra money (sorry:( ). Although if they were unaware of the holiday when they took him on, they might take a dim view of him turning down extra hours when they are busy. But if the holiday was booked before he started the job, then any employer would have to honour it!!Īlso, if the holiday doesn't conflict with his contracted hours then Asda can't actually stop him going. However having said that most companies will honour holidays booked before starting employment with them so if the holiday was booked in Nov 2010 and your brother started work in Feb 2011 I would expect them to allow it if he could show when it was booked although they could argue that he should have told them about it back in february. It is certainly possible that Asda don't allow time off then as it will be their busiest period - especially at weekends. Boots do not generally allow time off for the 8 weeks prior to christmas so that would include november.
